PCB Non-ionic Contamination
Non-ionic contamination can also occur in the manufacture of PCBs and are described as residues that are non-conductive and are usually organic species. These residues can remain on the surface after flux fabrication or assembly of the PCBs so require analysis to determine their root cause for elimination purposes.
The residues include rosin, oils, grease and can be analysed using combinations of different organic chemical analytical techniques including FTIR, GC and GC-MS. The FTIR spectrum shows residual rosin from a PCB process.
