Karl Fischer Water and Moisture Content Analysis
The presence of water even at low levels in products, can be damaging in certain circumstances and can inhibit the function of products. The key to discovering the root cause of water related issues, can be evidenced through analysis such as Karl Fischer also known as Karl Fisher or KF analysis. LPD Lab Services applications of Karl Fischer include:
Liquids analyses:
- Water content in organic solutions.
- Water content in etchant solutions.
- Water content in paints.
- Water content in oils.
- Water content in coolants.
Solid analyses:
- Moisture analysis of plastics including nylon which can weaken mechanical properties.
- Analysis of powders such as additives like carbonates CO3, pigments, silicon carbide SiC and titania.
Karl Fischer is a sensitive water content analysis technique. Karl Fischer can measure the amount of water present from a Parts Per Million ppm range up to the percentage range. The types of products that can be tested through Karl Fischer are mostly limited by the type of water extraction method required and the amount of water present in the original sample.
